The State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced that Simon McArley has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive and Director of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

The State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced that Simon McArley has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive and Director of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).
Adam Feeley, who has been SFO Chief Executive and Director since November 2009, is relocating to Queenstown to the role of Chief Executive of the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
"In his time as Chief Executive, Adam Feeley has effectively transformed the SFO and put clear performance measures in place during a period of record workload for the organisation," Iain Rennie said.
"He has reaffirmed public confidence in the SFO by successfully prosecuting high profile cases and forging constructive relationships with other agencies in the law enforcement area," Mr Rennie said.
Senior lawyer Simon McArley, who currently leads the SFO's Financial Markets and Corporate Fraud team, will begin his acting role on Saturday 6 October.
Under his management, Mr McArley's team has led the SFO's investigation and prosecutions of failed finance companies, many of national prominence and complexity, over the last few years.
It is expected that advertising for a permanent SFO Chief Executive will begin in the New Year.

Biography of Simon McArley
Simon McArley has led the Financial Markets and Corporate Fraud team at the Serious Fraud Office since July 2010.
Prior to his appointment, Simon performed similar regulatory roles at the Securities Commission and the NZX.
Before then he was a partner in a leading legal practice for over 10 years.
Simon graduated with an LL.B (Hons) from Victoria University and has contributed to numerous legal publications and seminars.
He has been a member of the New Zealand Markets Disciplinary Tribunal, and, past convener of the New Zealand Law Society Commercial and Business Law Committee.
